A stick pin with an Essex glass musician.

Very unusual stick pin, created in America during the Art Deco period, back in the 1930. This elusive pin has been crafted with an hexagonal shape in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with a high polished finish. It is embellished as a main element with an Essex glass carving depicting a very well dressed standing musician, playing a clarinet. The carved piece of Essex glass is embellished from the reverse with applications of white, red, black and gold enamels. It is fitted with a stick pin of two inches to wear in the flap or tie.

Essex Glass

Essex crystal pieces are formed from a rock crystal cabochon (polished domes of rock crystal with a flat base), an image or motif is then reverse carved into the flat base, and then painted, to give them impression of a three dimensional object or image encapsulated in the cabochon when viewed from above. Production of a reverse crystal intaglio begins with the mining and cutting of fine rock crystal from Brazil or Madagascar. A well-formed cabochon is the key to a beautifully made reverse intaglio and the tedious process of hand polishing it to perfection had to be completed before the design work could begin.

Weight: 3.45 Grams, (2.21 Dwt).

Measurements: 54 mm by 12 mm (2.13 x 0.47 Inches).

Hallmarks: Unmarked, tested for 14 karats gold, (.585/.999 Au).

Collateral: This stick pin is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.

ConditionThe overall condition of this stick pin is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The Essex glass is secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
