Georges L'Enfant

The French master jeweler Georges L'Enfant was born into the world of French jewelry design, and following several apprenticeships and studies, he set up his own workshop in 1900. L’Enfant not only was a superb technical jeweler, but he was a also a creative jewelry designer, putting him in high demand with established houses such as Boucheron, Cartier, Mellerio Dits Meller and Van Cleef & Arpels. Georges was quite aware of his own need for posterity though, so he established a maker’s mark in 1909, proceeding to stamp each piece before it left his workshop. L’Enfant son and collaborator, Jacques, later developed the L’Enfant signature chain pieces, fascinated as he was by how the interlocking links could be arranged into a myriad of patterns. The jewelry atelier of Georges L’Enfant was in Paris, at 47 rue Des Petits-Champs.
