TIFFANY & CO. 1977 by Elsa Peretti 4 Flying Saucers Bangles Set In .925 Sterling Silver
Bangles set designed by Elsa Peretti (1940-2021) for Tiffany & Co.
These are a very rare set of four bangles bracelets, created in New York City by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co., back in 1977. The model is called "The Flying Saucer" and just a few pieces were produced with the oval free shape.
They were crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with high polished finish. This set of bangles bracelets is a serious collector's item, since is one of the earliest models designed by Peretti. At least, between 200 and 250 pieces were produced with different shapes making each unique. Which what makes it extra interesting is that the bangles feature a design with slight irregularly shapes and edges.
This suite is very hard to get as a set of four and as note, they can be also used either as a bracelet or a pendant in a cord or a chain.
Weight: All together 230.5 grams, (147.80 Dwt.).
Size: The inside circumference is 7.85 inches. They will fit a wrist up to 7.5 inches (19 Cm).
Measurements: Approximate of 95.3 mm by 82.5 mm by 4 mm (3.75 by 3.25 by 0.16 inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the silver and signed as follows, "T&CO. 925 XC E".
Elsa Peretti
She was an important and iconic American designer that joined Tiffany & Co in the 1974 and change the role of diamonds and color gemstones in fashion for the everyday wear and elevating the status of the sterling silver jewelry. mostly using unusual gemstones and materials. all her creations are as modern today as ever. She elevated sterling silver, previously considered unsuitable for fine jewelry, and created an enthusiastic young audience for Tiffany’s offerings. In 1977, Peretti’s designs earned the jewelry house more than $6 million. (In some years, her work has accounted for 10 percent of the company’s sales. In 2012, Peretti signed a 20-year, $47.3 million contract with Tiffany & Co., but she passed away in 2021, at age 80. Today, her designs are in the permanent collections of several museums.
