This is a miniature scale model of a gold mining mill made up as a sample in the late 19th century, circa 1880. This antique model is a miniature creation of folk-art of the real machinery. Hand crafted with parts of wood, copper and steel. The mechanic is fully functional and the mill rotate in an axis. This beautiful piece has been masterfully crafted with incredible details. Small, very early and well-made salesman's sample. Recently cleaned, all original, in very good overall condition, with nice rich surface patina. This so-called adult’s toys are highly collectable and display very well, It is a great conversation piece and neat piece!
History
These kinds of pieces were commonly used in the 19th and 20th centuries, salesman samples were exact duplicates of the larger pieces, showing extensive and important details. They fall into two categories: those that work and those that do not. Samples are sent out to sales reps in order to take pre-orders or intent orders from trade shows, retailers and wholesale accounts.
