Clips-on earrings designed by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.
This is an iconic pair of clips-on earrings, created in New York city by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., back in the 1970's. They were crafted in in the shape of seashells in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high textured finish. They are fitted at the reverse with comfortable French omega backs for fastening clips and the addition of gold posts for pierced ears can be easily done.
Weight: 9.65 Grams, (6.20 Dwt).
Measurements: 20 mm by 18 mm (0.79 x 0.71 Inches).
Hallmarks: They are both stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and signed as follows, "TIFFANY & CO. 18KT SCHLUMBERGER".
Jean Schlumberger
In 1956, he was asked by the president of Tiffany & Co. Walter Hovin to begin designing for the firm. He had his own workshop at the company until his retirement in the late 1970's and was eventually made vice president of the company. Schlumberger designs at tiffany were remarkable for their whimsical interpretation of natural forms. He was especially inspired by the sea creatures and other animals. He was an exceptional designer, jeweler and a master enameller.
