Pendant-buckle designed by Elsa Peretti (1940-2021) for Tiffany & Co.

An impressive sculptural piece of jewelry, created by Peretti at the Tiffany Studios, back in the 1980. This pendant and buckle were part of the iconic and popular collection named, The Eternal Circles. It was carefully crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver, finished with very high polished.

Designed with very sleek patterns, in a free-form shape with a strong inspiration and reminiscence to the German-French sculptor, Jean Arp. This piece is very versatile since can be used as a huge drop pendant or as a belt buckle.

Eternal Circle, band or ring is also commonly used as a symbol for eternity, as is the mathematical symbol of infinity. Symbolically these are reminders that eternity has no beginning or end.

The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, god (God is a circle whose Centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere). Is the sun, it is masculine power; as the soul and as encircling waters, it is the feminine maternal principle. "It implies an idea of movement, and symbolizes the cycle of time, the perpetual motion of everything that moves, the planets' journey around the sun (the circle of the zodiac), the great rhythm of the universe. the circle is also zero in our system of numbering, and symbolizes potential, or the embryo. it has a magical value as a protective agent and indicates the end of the process of individuation, of striving towards a psychic wholeness and self-realization".

With the number ten, symbolizes heaven and perfection as well as eternity. In Jung, the antithesis of the square (lowest state of man who has not achieved inner perfection), standing for the ultimate state of oneness, with octagon in between. circle of necessity: birth, growth, decline, death. defense against chaos, formlessness. related to Yin Yang.

This piece is pretty large and heavy, with a total weight of 61.5 grams and a measures of 83 mm by 97 mm (3.27 x 3.82 inches).

Stamped, with the maker's mark, the silver assay hallmark and signed in full, "PERETTI TIFFANY & CO. ITALY C. .925 STERLING 1981".

Elsa Peretti, was a very famous designer that joined Tiffany & Co in the 1974 and change the complete role of diamonds and color gemstones in fashion for the everyday wear and elevating the status of the sterling silver jewelry. mostly using unusual gemstones and materials. all her creations are as modern today as ever.
