A long chain designed by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.

This is a one-of-a-kind long necklace sautoir created by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co., back in 1970's. This rare sculptural chain has much historical importance and was carefully crafted in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish. The links were designed as springs in the shape of rotini. This chain is a so-called prototype and a very important collectors’ piece, since just a few were produced, we have not seen or locate any other one.

Period: Modernism, 1970-1975.

Length: 38 Inches, (96.5 Cm).

Measurements: The wight is 7.2 mm, (0.28 Inch). 

Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 yellow gold and signed in full as follows, "TIFFANY & CO. 18KT SCHLUMBERGER".

Jean Schlumberger

He was asked in 1956 by the president of Tiffany & Co. Walter Hovin to begin designing for the firm. He had his own workshop at the company until his retirement in the late 1970's and was eventually made vice president of the company. Schlumberger designs at tiffany were remarkable for their whimsical interpretation of natural forms. He was especially inspired by the sea creatures and others animals. He was an exceptional designer, jeweler and a master enameller.
