This is a very fine and exceptionally rare Thorens “Portor” desk lighter, manufactured in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, in 1926, during the early Art Deco period.
Designed specifically as a table lighter, this impressive example combines a robust steel lighter mechanism with an elegant rectangular marble base, creating a substantial and sophisticated desk accessory. The mechanism is operated by a distinctive push button in vivid red Bakelite, adding a striking contrast to the industrial character of the steel construction. The Portor model is an important early example of Thorens’ innovative mechanical lighter production and is particularly desirable among collectors.
