A signet seal ring with an eagle made in Germany.

This is a very rare signet seal ring, created in Germany back in the 1930's. The ring has been made during the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich period in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish and is mount on top with an intaglio seal carved from bloodstone. The carving depicts a standing stylized geometric eagle facing to the left with the gothic letters in the exeter, DKD, (Deutscher Kalibrierdienst). The Bundeswehr consists of the Armed Forces and the major civilian organisational elements. In addition, it includes the Military Counterintelligence Service, which is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Defence. Together, all of these organisational elements fulfil the mission of the Bundeswehr.

The German Eagle

The coat of arms of Germany, also known as Bundeswappen displays a black eagle with a red beak, a red tongue and red feet on a golden field, which is blazoned: Or, an eagle displayed sable beaked langued and membered gules. This is the Bundesadler (German for 'Federal Eagle'), formerly known as Reichsadler. It is one of the oldest coats of arms in the world, and today the oldest national symbol used in Europe. It is a re-introduction of the coat of arms of the Weimar Republic (in use 1919–1935), which was adopted by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950. The current official design is due to Karl-Tobias Schwab [de] (1887–1967) and was originally introduced in 1928.

An Intaglio Seal

This is an engraved gem, frequently is a small and usually semi-precious gemstone that has been carved, in the Western tradition normally with images or inscriptions only on one face. The engraving of gemstones was a major luxury art form in the ancient world, and an important one in some later periods. Strictly speaking, engraving means carving in intaglio (with the design cut into the flat background of the stone), but relief carvings (with the design projecting out of the background as in nearly all cameos) are also covered by the term. This article uses cameo in its strict sense, to denote a carving exploiting layer of differently colored stone. The activity is also called gem carving and the artists gem-cutters. References to antique gems and intaglios in a jewelry context will almost always mean carved gems; when referring to monumental sculpture, counter-relief, meaning the same as intaglio, is more likely to be used. Vessels like the Cup of the Ptolemies and heads or figures carved in the round are also known as hardstone carvings.
