Modernist Op-Art sculptural ring.

A sculptural wearable piece of Scandinavian modern art, created in the northern European region, back in the 1970. This beautiful ring has been most probably made in Denmark and it was carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karat, with polished and brushed finishes. The sleek design is inspired by the Bauhaus parameters and is composed by two parts, the lower body of the shank and the upper bended circular element that wrap the gemstones in a mirrors trap, creating a fabulous optical illusion.

The bended circle part is mounted with 9 four-prongs settings, that are holding 4 royal blue sapphires and 5 vivid red rubies. All gemstones are natural, round brilliant cut, transparents and have a combined weight of 0.54 carats.

Has a total weight of 12.2 Grams and the actual size is 5.5, sizeable. The top view measurements are 12 mm by 27 mm and raise 12 mm over the finger.

Stamped, with French import owl mark, the maker's monogram, the hallmark for the assay of the gold and signed, "18KT GF 83".

Note: This ring was imported into France, around the 1976.

NoteOp art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black, white or color contrasting. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or of swelling or warping. The antecedents of op art, in terms of graphic and color effects, can be traced back to Neo-impressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism and Dada. László Moholy-Nagy produced photographic op art and taught the subject in the Bauhaus. One of his lessons consisted of making his students produce holes in cards and then photographing them.

Note: The Bauhaus style tends to feature simple geometric shapes like rectangles circles and spheres, without elaborate decorations. Buildings, furniture, jewelry and fonts often feature rounded corners and sometimes rounded walls. Other buildings or decorative pieces are characterized by rectangular features, for example protruding balconies with flat, chunky railings facing the street, and long banks of windows. furniture often uses chrome metal pipes that curve at corners.

It is in great condition.
