OLD TIMER 1930 Germany Industrial Tall Desk petrol Lighter In Polished Chromed Steel
An "Old Timer" petrol desk stand lighter.
This is a very interesting German table petrol lighter, dating from the World War II period, circa 1939–1945. Designed as a compact and functional “Old Timer” table lighter, this unusual example is distinguished by its mechanical operating system and its black wool-felt base, which provides both stability and protection for the surface on which it rests. The lighter operates through an ingenious rotating mechanism. The wick assembly is turned until it engages against the spark wheel, after which the ignition button is pressed with the thumb to produce the spark and ignite the wick. Once lit, the mechanism is rotated back into its original position, allowing the flame to be conveniently used.
The lighter remains capable of producing a strong spark, with the flint tube clear and ready to accept a new flint. It is a traditional wick-type petrol lighter, representative of the practical mechanical designs produced in Germany during the early-to-mid 20th century. The presence of a number marking may suggest an original institutional use, possibly as a table-numbered object in a train, barracks, or other military-related setting, although this attribution cannot be confirmed solely from the marking. In very good original condition, with only minimal surface wear and no significant flaws, this is a fascinating historical object combining utilitarian design, mechanical ingenuity, and wartime provenance.
