RARE MICRO MOSAIC PIN BROOCH FROM THE 19th CENTURY

AN EXCEPTIONAL GRAND TOUR, OVAL SHAPED PIECE FROM THE LAST QUARTER OF THE 19th CENTURY, CIRCA 1880'S. THIS ANTIQUE PIECE WAS MADE IN ENGLAND DURING THE VICTORIAN ERA (1840-1901). IS TOTALLY HAND CRAFTED IN 18 KARATS YELLOW GOLD, WITH LABRATED BORDERS AND SUITED, WITH A HINGED HORIZONTAL PIN BAR AND A HOOK LOCK TO BE WEARED.

THE MAIN DECORATIVE ELEMENT, IS AN INTRICATE MICRO MOSAIC, MOUNTED IN A BLACK ONYX BASE, DEPICTING THE ROMAN TEMPLE OF "VESTA". THE PIECE OF MICRO MOSAIC IS OF ITALIAN ORIGINS, CREATED FROM MORE THAN 300 PIECES, CARVED FROM NATURAL STONES SUCH; BLUE LAPIS LAZULI, RED CORAL, BLACK ONYX, GREEN MALACHITE, CREME & WHITE MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND REDISH JASPER

BETWEEN 1860 AND 1890, ANCIENT CITIES WERE DISCOVERED, SUCH AS TROY, POMPEII AND ALEXANDRIA. ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS IN EGYPT, GREECE AND ROME, DISCOVERED ARTISTIC PIECES OF THESE ANCIENT CULTURES. THESE FABULOUS DISCOVERIES, STIMULATED CULTURAL TRIPS TO THESE COUNTRIES, POPULARLY CALLED "GRAND TOUR". BEING THE CASE THAT THE ENTHUSIAST VISITORS BRING BACK SMALL OBJECTS, LIKE SOUVENIRS TO BE ASSEMBLED INTO JEWELERY.
