EXTREMELY RARE OP-ART BROOCH PENDANT DESIGNED BY MARINA APOLLONIO (1940-).

A WEARABLE OP-ART SCULPTURE CREATED IN PARIS FRANCE IN THE 1966.WAS CONCEIVED IN AN EDITION, OF ONLY 12 PIECES AND THIS IS THE NUMBER 4 OF THE EDITION.

EACH PIECE WAS INDIVIDUALLY HAND CRAFTED IN SOLID STERLING SILVER (.950/.999) WITH A HIGH POLISHED MIRRORED SURFACE AND EMBELLISHED WITH THREE GEOMETRIC GROUPS OF CONCENTRIC CIRCLES. APPLIED WITH HOT BLACK ENAMEL AND THE REVERSE IS FINISHED WITH A FROSTED SATIN SURFACE.

THE BACK IS SUITED WITH AN HORIZONTAL HINGED STEM PIN TO BE USED AS A BROOCH AND WITH A REMOVABLE PIECE TO BE USED AS A PENDANT. 

IS STAMPED WITH THE FRENCH ASSAY HALLMARKS FOR THE GUARANTY OF THE .950 SILVER, THE MAKER'S MAITRE CARTOUCHE AND ENGRAVED WITH THE SIGNATURE,  "M. APOLLONIO 1966 4/12".

THIS PIECE HAVE A TOTAL WEIGHT OF 40.4 Grams AND A DIAMETER OF 2.52 INCHES (64 mm).

MARINA APOLLONIO, IS AN ITALIAN POSTWAR, CONTEMPORARY ARTIST WHO WAS BORN IN 1940. AFTER THE WAR HER FAMILY MOVED TO VENICE, WHERE SHE RECEIVED HER ARTISTIC EDUCATION AT THE VENICE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN THE 1960'S.

M. APOLLONIO BEGAN TO EXPLORE ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTIONS FOR INTERIORS AND THEM TURNED TO THE STUDY OF THE WAY OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION. IN THE 1963, SHE PRODUCED HER FIRST WORK, METAL RELIEFS WITH ALTERNATE COLOR SEQUENCE. SHE SHARED WITH OTHERS OP-ARTISTS THE INTEREST IN A DEPERSONALIZED ART, AS OPPOSITE TO ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM. SHE USED INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS IN HER PROCESS, CREATING DYNAMIC AND FLUCTUATING ENVIRONMENTS IN THE USER'S PERCEPTION.

SHE'S REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STYLE OF OP-ART, IN THE 1965 SHE BECAME PART OF THE INTERNATIONAL OP-ART MOVEMENT, MEETING AND EXHIBITING WITH ARTIST SUCH, THE GRUPPO N OF PADUA, GRUPPO T OF MILAN, GETULIO ALVIANI AND DADAMAINO. SHE WAS INVITED TO NOVA TENDENCIJA 3, AN INTERNATIONAL GROUP SHOW HELD AT GALLERIES LIKE; GALERIJA SUVREMENE UMJETNOSTI IN ZAGEG AND THE GALERIA AKTUEL IN BERN. EXHIBITING TOGETHER WITH  GETULIO ALVIANI, PAOLO SCHEGGI, FRANCOIS MORELLET, JULIO LE PARC, VICTOR VASARELY AND GIANNI COLOMBO.

HER UNIQUE WORK HAS BROUGHT HER WIDE POPULARITY, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHERE THE MOTION EFFECT WAS CREATED USING CONCENTRIC CIRCLES. IN THE 1975, SHE MOVED FROM THE CIRCLES TO PARALLEL LINES. SHE STARTED MAKING WORKS BASED ON THE ORTHOGONAL RELATIONSHIP OF PARALLEL COLORED LINES (See Figures).

IN THE 1981 SHE BEGAN TO WORK WITH TEXTILES. HER WORKS WAS EXHIBITED IN NUMEROUS EXHIBITIONS AND ARE HELD IN MULTIPLES GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS AROUND THE GLOBE. HER WORKS ARE PART OF THE PERMANENT COLLECTIONS OF THE, EL MUSEO DEL BARRIO IN NEW YORK CITY, THE GALLERIA EVA MEYER IN PARIS, THE MUSEUM JENISH IN SWITZERLAND AND THE COLUMBUS MUSEUM OF ART, AMONG MANY OTHERS.

THIS PIECE IS IN IMPECCABLE CONDITION WITH NO TRACE OF ANY WEAR. A TRULY RARE OP-ART SCULPTURE AND AN IMPORTANT COLLECTOR'S PIECE. WE CANNOT TRACE ANY OTHER SIMILAR PIECE AND WE ARE SURE THE AUTHORIZED EDITION OF 12 PIECES WAS COMPLETED.
