This is a highly unusual antique petrol lighter, made in Warsaw, Poland, circa 1888, during the late Victorian period. Crafted in silver-plated brass, this remarkable piece reflects the Western European taste for richly ornamented mechanical objects and early smoking accessories. The lighter is designed in the lift-arm style, fitted with an ignition wheel and an unusual decorative mechanism. Its case is richly embellished with high-relief three-dimensional ornamentation, featuring a magnificent wild boar surrounded by elaborate floral garlands.
