John Henry Born in 1943. Is an American artist and internationally renowned sculptor. Is best known for his monumental abstract sculptures of intersecting welded beams and monoliths. After designing, engineering, and welding all of his sculptures in studio, he places linear and planar pieces of colored steel in precariously balanced configurations. Henry emphasizes solids and voids, shadow, and a commitment to the exploration of materials. Typically identified with 1970s. Minimalist, his formal roots lie in Russian Constructivism's merging of industrial processes and geometric abstraction. Henry’s work ranges from small pieces to some of the largest metal sculptures in the world.
Since 1971, Henry has produced many monumental and large-scaled works of art fo museums, cities and public institutions across the United States, Europe and Asia. He has created some of the largest contemporary metal sculpture (90 to 100 feet (27 to 30 m) high) in the United States, and his sculpture is designed, engineered, fabricated, and erected by his own studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
