A 19th century Stiletto Dagger made in Florence
An exceptional antique early 19th century Italian Florentine stiletto dagger with a beautifully and extremely well forged details. Made up in iron, .800 silver and .750 gold with accents in gold damascene. The scabbard is decorated with the Ducal crown arms of the Medici family and with the head of Medusa in high relief. Is designed as a chatelaine type to be worn on the belt or thigh and is made up of several elements; the bra in the form of an octagonal combat shield and two carved chains, which hold the guard where the dagger goes.
The dagger itself is highly decorated with three dimensional figures in the pommel. The semi nude standing figure of medusa holding a skull and two reclined figures similar to the Medici chapel and the tomb of Giuliano De Medici, designed by Michelangelo. All richly accented in gold inlaid and silver.
A very special piece created with renaissance revival patterns, from the period of the grand tours.
