French neo classic convertible pendant-brooch.

Magnificent rare antique piece, created in Paris France during the second half of the 19th century, circa 1840-1850. This gorgeous convertible piece, is a pendant and a brooch that has been crafted with neo classic patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with a thin silver layer for the setting of the diamonds. It is fitted at the reverse with a very unusual removable mechanical element to wear as a brooch and a discrete bail to wear as a pendant, in a chain.

The craftsmanship and the assembling is extremely much superior to other pieces from the same French period and is adorned with acanthus motifs, tassels and three fleur d'Lys, which denotes a Bourbonic influence, most likely in reference to the old kingdom or the ruling king of France Louis Philippe I. It is mounted with a carved agate with two layers that represents the Greek-Roman mythological scene of Venus takes away Cupid's arrow.

In ancient Greece Cupid was known as Eros, the young son of Aphrodite the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. For the Romans, Cupid is the god of love, son of Venus and Mars, god of war. Cupid was an assistant to his mother Venus, he directed the primordial force of love and brought it to mortals
