French snuff box in agate and gold.
This is a fabulous round box, created in Paris France during the reigning period of king Louis XV back in the 1760. This beautiful box has been designed with baroque patterns and was carefully crafted with two pieces carved from translucent gray-whiteish agate. The agates are decorated with sculpted, chiseled and repousse elements made up in yellow gold of 18 karats. It is fitted with a five barrels hinged lid and a round mirror, which have remains of the original silvering. Actually, this luxurious piece can be used as a pill box.
Weight: 38.5 Grams, (24.78 Dwt).
Measurements: Diameter of 39 mm and a height of 22 mm (1.54 x 0.87 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped two times with ancient French marks inside an oval cartouche for the assay and warranty of the 750/.999 finesse.
