Pelican brooch designed by Frascarolo.

A beautiful brooch, created in Milano Italy by the famed Italian jeweler and designer Pierino Frascarolo. This impressive piece is highly sculpted and was from his bestiary collection designed during the mid-Century period, back in the 1960. It was made up in the shape of a whimsical happy standing pelican, carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with textured finish. The pelican is decorated with applications of vivid colors enamels in black, white and orange. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged vertical pin bar and a mechanical security lock.

Diamonds: Mounted in a pave setting, with 32 European round cut diamonds, 0.64 carats, white colorless F/G color, VS-2 clarity.

Ruby: The eye is bezel set, with 1 oval faceted cut of natural red ruby of 0.35 carats.

Weight: 32.50 Grams, (20.84 Dwt).

Measurements: 65 mm by 42 mm by 15 mm (2.56 x 1.65 x 0.59 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped in a plaque under the head, with the maker's mark for Frascarolo, the assay marks for the gold and signed, "FRASCAROLO MODELE DEPOSE F.C. MADE IN ITALY .750 18 KT *347AL".

Pierino Frascarolo

He was born in 1928 in Milan Italy. He began his career as an apprentice with the Fratelli Lunati company. Subsequently, he founded his own firm with the partnership of Aldo Lenti. In 1948, he moved his jewelry factory to Corso Matteotti. He is well-known for his enamel and gold animals created throughout the 1960s. Later, Lenti and Frascarolo separated and the latter formed Frascarolo & co. in New York city with Mr. Adriano Gugliada. Frascarolo died in Valenza in July 1976 at the young age of just forty-eight.

Note: Frascarolo is considered by many, the David Webb from Italy. His jewelry with beasts and wild animals in enamel are wanted and considered as highly collectible pieces.

ConditionThe overall condition of this brooch is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. All gemstones and enamels are secured in the settings. This brooch has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
