BEAUTIFUL NECKLACE DESIGNED BY STUART DEVLIN (1931-2018).
"THE PEOPLES" NECKLACE, AN ICONIC CREATION BY THE LATE AUSTRALIAN-BRITISH BASED, ARTIST, DESIGNER AND GOLDSMITH, STUART DEVLIN. THIS EARLY PIECE, WAS MADE IN 1973 AND IT IS HAND CRAFTED IN SOLID 18 KARATS OF HIGHLY TEXTURED YELLOW AND WHITE GOLD.
THE NECKLACE HAVE A CHAIN OF 30 INCHES AND IS COMPOSED BY MULTIPLES PEOPLES-HUMANOIDS ATACHED FROM THE HANDS AND FEETS. THE MAIN DROP ELEMENT IS EMBELLISHED WITH A CABOCHON PEAR CUT (8 x 42 x 31 mm), CARVED FROM NATURAL AZUR-MALACHITE WITH A WEIGHT OF 110.85 CARATS.
THE COMBINED TOTAL WEIGHT IS 50.6 Grams.
JUST THE CHAIN HAVE A LENGHT OF 30 Inches AND THE MAIN HANGING ELEMENT, HAVE A DROP OF 2.1 Inches.
IS STAMPED AT THE BALE, WITH BRITISH, LONDON HALLMARKS, WITH THE LETTER S FOR THE CREATION DATE 1973, THE MAKER'S CARTOUCHE MARK SD FOR STUART DEVLIN AND "18" FOR THE GOLD ASSAY.
STUART DEVLIN (1931-2018) WAS AN AUSTRALIAN BORN ARTIST, BASED IN LONDON ENG LAND SINCE 1965. IN HIS EARLY DAYS, DEVLIN WAS PRINCIPALLY KNOWN AS A SILVERSMITH, TURNING TO JEWELRY DESIGN FURTHER DOWN THE WORKS. HIS WORKS WHETHER IN SILVER OR JEWELRY, IS CHARACTERIZED BY FILIGREE AND PATTERNS OF OPENWORKS RETICULATION. HE WAS APPOINTED GOLDSMITH AND JEWELER TO THE QUEEN ELIZABETHH II IN 1996 AND WAS THE DESIGNER OF THE AUSTRALIAN DECIMAL COINS & MEDALS. IN ADITTION HE CREATED MANY PIECES FOR THE ACTRESS ELIZABETH TAYLOR. HIS WORKS ARE EXHIBITED IN THE PERMANENT COLLECTIONS OF, THE VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM AND THE ROYAL COLLECTION IN BUCKINGHAM PALACE.
