David Webb 1950 New York Chinoiserie Drop Earrings In 18Kt Gold With Diamonds Turquoise Coral And Jadeite
Rare pair of drop earrings designed by David Webb (1925-1975).
Beautiful early chinoiserie pieces made between the 1950's and the 1960's by David Webb. His atelier boutique was located in New York city, at 2 west 46th street. This handsome pair surely is a very early one and unique piece. It was crafted in 18 karat yellow gold and suited with comfortable omega backs for fastening clips.
The focus main elements are the finely carved natural gemstones, such; a pair of blue turquoise spheres (14 mm), a pair of carved corals Shou spheres (14 mm) and two free form briolette of vivid green jadeite jade (8 x 12 x 20 mm).
All gemstones are natural, untreated and have an approximate total weight of 70 carats.
Accented with 4 spacers, mounted with 48 round brilliant cut diamonds, 0.78 Ctw, F/G color, VS-2 clarity.
This pair have a total weight of 28.3 grams and a drop measure of 65 mm (2.56 inches).
Stamped with the maker's mark, the gold assay hallmark and signed, "WEBB 18 KT".
David Webb (1925-1975), was an American jeweler. On July 28, 1948, he founded David Webb, the company, which opened at 2 West 46th Street. Among his clients were Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Barbara Streisand and Beyoncé have also worn his jewelry.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina in 1925, Webb was a self-taught designer whose work included dragon bracelets, Maltese cross brooches and animal motifs. In 1964, The Duke of Windsor purchased a bracelet for his wife. Diana Vreeland, a noted columnist and editor of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, was often seen with a David Webb black-and-white enamel zebra bangle.
