CHINA MING DYNASTY 1368-1644 AD. GREEN GLAZED EARTHENWARE WASH STAND WITH BOWL
A VERY RARE MING DYNASTY OFFERING WASH STAND WITH BOWL. AN UNUSUAL ANCIENT EARLY PIECE, CREATED IN CHINA AROUND THE 1450 AD, DURING THE MING DYNASTY, BETWEEN THE 1368-1644 AD.
A VERY HANDSOME ROUND FOUR LEGGED WASH STAND WITH A REMOVABLE FLAT ROUND BOWL AT TOP. THIS PIECE IS MOST PROBABLY FROM AN EARLIER PERIOD, IS CRAFTED IN EARTHENWARE AND EMBELLISHED WITH GLAZED DEEP GREEN COLOR.
TOMB FIGURES LIKE THESE ARE PART OF A CLASS OF ARTIFACTS CALLED MINGQI, SOMETIMES CALLED SPIRIT UTENSILS OR VESSELS FOR GHOSTS. THEY BECAME POPULAR IN THE HAN DYNASTY AND WOULD PERSIST FOR SEVERAL CENTURIES. ALONGSIDE ITEMS LIKE THESE WERE ANIMALS, MUSICIANS, ATHLETES AND STRUCTURES, ANYTHING THE DECEASED MIGHT NEED TO RECREATE THE WORLD OF THE LIVING.
THIS PIECE HAVE A TOTAL MEASURES OF 7 BY 5.25 BY 5.25 INCHES.
IN PRETTY EXCELLENT CONDITION AND GOOD SHAPE WITH ABSOLUTELY NO REPAIRS. VERY SMALL IMPERCEPTIBLE CHIPS AS USUAL FOR THIS TYPE.
