Chaumet Paris 1960 Jeweled Bee Brooch In 18Kt Yellow Gold With Diamonds Emeralds
A jeweled bee brooch designed by Chaumet.
A Vintage Queen Bee Brooch, created in Paris France by the house of Chaumet, back in the late 1960's. It was carefully crafted in 18 Karat Yellow Gold, detailed with twisted yellow gold rope veins, leading to the ridged body with a naturalistic textured finish, the legs and head are carved in polished gold, secured to reverse with a hinged pin and barrel trombone clasp fitting.
The bee is the oldest lineage symbol in France, since the Merovingian kings. It was adopted again in 1803 by Emperor Napoleon and recreated by Chaumet as a symbol of the jewels of the new dynasty.
This brooch is modelled as a queen bee ready to fly, with the wings, embellished with carvings of white nacre, the eyes are bezel set with two diamonds, the upper body are mounted, with 6 four-prongs settings, that are holding, four natural Colombian vivid green emeralds (0.80 Ctw) and two round brilliant cuts diamonds (0.14 Ctw, F color, VS-1 clarity).
Has a weight of 11.4 Grams and a measures of 38 mm by 28 mm (1.50 x 1.10 Inches).
Stamped, with French hallmarks: the eagle's head for the assay and guaranty of the 18 kt gold, the maker's maitre JC for Joseph Chaumet and signed, "CHAUMET PARIS",
Chaumet, was founded by the French born jeweler, Marie-Etienne Ninot. He began his career as an assistant court-jeweler to the queen Marie Antoinette. In 1780, he moved to Paris and founded the house of Chaumet, and was appointed as jeweler to emperor Napoleon in 1802. During this period, Ninot became one of the most popular jewelers in Europe, establishing a loyal and continuous prestigious clientele. today the house remains as a luxury jewelry house under the name Chaumet Paris.
