CARTIER Paris GAIA Ring In 18Kt Yellow Gold Chrysoprase, Diamonds, Rubies & Onyx
Very rare Gaia ring designed by Cartier.
This is a vintage ring created in Paris, France by the jewelry house of Cartier, back in 1990. This cocktail ring is part of the Gaia collection, masterfully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. Embellished with multicolor carved gemstones and white colorless diamonds. The design of the ring was inspired by the Indian Mughal, tutti-frutti jewelry designed by Cartier during the art deco period between the 1920 and 1930.
Cartier Mughal Tutti-Frutti History
The first Tutti Frutti piece was designed in 1901 by Pierre Cartier. It was a necklace commissioned by queen Alexandra to be worn with three Indian gowns she received as a gift. The designs are considered the perfect mix of east and west because they are made up of brightly colored gemstones (like sapphires, rubies and emeralds) carved using Indian techniques and set in French platinum and diamond mountings. The style became extremely popular during the 1920's, but it wasn't christened the 'Tutti Frutti' until 1970.
Chrysoprase: Mount on top in a bezel setting, with 1 fancy carved pear-shaped cabochon cut of a natural translucent green chrysoprase with a weight of about 2.65 carats.
Rubies: Accented at the sides in bezel settings, with 2 well matched straight baguettes of natural red ruby with a combined estimate weight of about 0.12 carats.
Diamonds: Mount in flush pave settings, with 8 calibrated round brilliant cut diamonds, with a total weight of about 0.10 carats, white colorless D/E color, VS-1 clarity.
Onyx: Mount in inlaid settings, with 1 fancy cabochon cut of natural black onyx.
Weight: 10.25 Grams, (6.60 Dwt.).
Size: 6.5 and may be sized up or down on special request. French-European size 52.
Measures: 26 mm by 12.5 mm (1.02 X 0.49 Inches) and raise 7 mm over the finger.
Hallmarks: Stamped with French national marks; the eagle's head for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold, the maker's mark cartouche, the unique six-digits serial numbers and signed in full as follows, "CARTIER 750 1990 52 929608".
Note: Not many rings from this collection were produced and actually is no longer offered by Cartier.
Collateral: This Cartier Gaia ring is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
Condition: The overall condition of this Cartier Gaia ring is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The 12 gemstones are secured in the settings. This ring was carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
