CARTIER 1970 Aldo Cipullo Door Knocker Earrings IN 18Kt Gold With Onyxes
Pair of door knocker’s earrings designed by Aldo Cipullo (1936-1984) for Cartier.
This is a very rare pair of door knocker’s clips-earrings created in New York City for the house of Cartier by the jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo, back in 1971. The earrings have been carefully crafted in solid 18 karats yellow gold with high polished finish and embellished with two cabochons carved from black onyx. They a movable and fitted at the reverse with comfortable hinged French omega backs for fastening clips. The addition of gold posts for pierced ears can be easily done on special request. These earrings model are pictured in the page 90 at the Cipullo book write by Renato Cipullo and Vivienne Becker.
Black Onyx: Mounted in bezel settings, with 2 curved cabochon cuts carved from natural black onyx with an approximate total weight of about 24 carats.
Weight: 35.80 grams (22.95 Dwt).
Measurements: 38 mm by 36 mm (1.50 x 1.42 inches).
Hallmarks: They are both stamped at the reverse with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 gold, the plaque of Cartier, the five-digits serial numbers and signed in full as follows, "©A. CIPULLO 1971 18KT CARTIER 22160".
Aldo Cipullo
He was an Italian born jeweler. He born and was raised in a family of designers with jewelry traditions, his father was the owner of a jewelry factory and his brother Renato Cipullo made jewelry designs for Christian Dior. Aldo, was the creator of the popular and iconic Cartier bracelets, love and the nail, still until today considered ones of the best designs of the 20th century. He works as a designer in New York, for David Webb (1960-1969) and Cartier (1969-1975). In 1975 he found his own company as a freelance designer.
