Green zircons, are exceptionally rare and is the rarest color of the Zircon family. They are found in shades from yellowish-green to deep olive green. Notable sources for Green Zircons are Sri Lanka and Madagascar. They form as the result of natural radiation in a process known as metamictization. Interestingly, zircon is actually rarer than diamond, despite its lengthy history as a diamond replacement. However, mimicry can only get you so far. Zircon is December’s birthstone, providing a lot of color choice for December birthdays. Zircons come in many colors, but blue is perhaps the most popular and expensive. However, almost all blue zircon is heat treated. Green is the rarest natural color.
