DUTCH 1850 Netherlands Antique Compote In Sterling Silver And Carved Sodalite
A Dutch compote vase in silver and carved sodalite.
This is a beautiful and very well-made hexagonal compote created in Netherlands, back in 1850. The vase has been crafted in the neo-classic style with parts made up in solid .833/.999 silver and an hexagonal element, carved in rich blue sodalite. Both parts are connected by a vertical screw. Stamped with 19th century Dutch hallmarks and maker's mark.
Sodalite
This is a rich royal blue tectosilicate mineral known for its white calcite veining, often called "Princess Blue." Discovered in 1811 in Greenland, it gained fame in 1891 when massive deposits were found in Ontario, Canada. Primarily composed of sodium, it is used for jewelry, carvings, and ornamental stone.
