*Victorian 1890 Chinese Export Stamps Octagonal Box In Sterling Silver With Carved Jade

Victorian Sterling box for postal stamps.

Beautiful highly collectible piece from the Victorian Era (1837-1901). This little octagonal postal stamps box as been crafted around the 1890 in solid .900/.999 silver with multiples repousse of organics motifs. Composed by two parts; the lid mounted with an oval cabochon cut carved from translucent brownish jade and the depository compartment.

Has a total weight of 14.2 Grams and a measurements of 28 mm by 28 mm by 16 mm (1.1 x 1.10 x 0.63 Inches).

Stamped with the maker's mark of XIE CHENG, the Chinese export seals and the hallmarks cartouches for the city and the alloy of the silver.

Note: The maker's mark is XIE CHENG 協成, which was a mark from SHANTOU 汕頭 [SWATOW] on the east coast of Guangdong Province. SWATOW, as it was then known, was a treaty port.

Note: The jade displayed in this piece is not treated or dyed. Although the original purpose of this box was to preserve postage stamps, it could currently be used as a pill box.

Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch.

Condition: The overall condition of this box is very good. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silvr. The Jade gemstone, is secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
