An art deco mechanical box clock designed by Van Cleef & Arpels.

This is an extremely rare multifunctional desk piece, created in Paris France during the art deco period by the jewelry house of Van Cleef & Arpels back in the 1930's. This amazing geometric piece is a mechanical desk box, and a clock. It was crafted in the shape of a cube in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with high polished finish. It is engraved on top, in high relief with the figure of a marlin swordfish. The front part, where the clock face is located, have a secret door with pins and hinges, which when opened, reveals four compartments covered in fine cedar wood.

Dial: Square, brushed and silvered, analog with black Arabic geometric numbers and blued steel hands. Inscribed, "Greenleaf & Crosby Co. Van Cleef & Arpels Inc.".

Movement: Swiss, 15 jewels, mechanical winding for 8 days.

Weight: 1,696.89 Grams, (1087.75 Dwt). or 54.24 Troy Ounces.

Measurements: 95 mm by 95 mm by 95 mm (3.75 x 3.75 x 3.75 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; each part with the mark for the assay and the warranty of the silver, the maker's mark MB inside a lozange cartouche, the serial numbers signed, "VAN CLEEF & ARPELS FRANCE 387". Engraved; TCL APRIL 4, '32.

NoteWe have not been able to locate any other example like this, not even something similar produced by the Van Cleef & Arpels Maison during the art deco period.

Warranty: The movement has been cleaned and serviced for accurate timing and mechanical movements.

ConditionThe overall condition of this desk box-clock is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. All parts are secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
