Modernist box designed by Giovanni Ottaviani.

Fabulous modernist rectangular box decorated with "smalto". It was designed by Giovanni Ottaviani during the post-war period in the city of Massa and Carrara in Italy. It was carefully crafted by the master jewelry markers of Ottaviani, back in the 1960's. The box is very decorative and was carefully crafted in cedar wood and decorated with a repousse plaque made-up in .925/.999 sterling silver, with delicate hammered patterns. Magnificent piece with great artistic motifs, which are embellished with applications of colors glass enamel such, royal blue, turquoise blue and grass green.

Weight: All together is 344.5 Grams, (220.84 Dwt).

Measurements: 238 mm by 105 mm by 36 mm (9.35 x 4.13 x 1.42 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with pre-1968 Italian marks, the maker's mark inside a lozange cartouche, the mark for the assay of the silver and signed at the lower left side, "OTTAVIANI .928 8 MC".

Note: The Law 26 October 1944 n. 313 (Decreto Legislativo Luogotenenziale 26 Ottobre 1944 n. 313) ordered the elimination of the 'fascio' symbol, maintaining into the lozenge only the number (identification of the silversmith) and the two letters (initials of the province). In this case, number 8 and MC.
