A guilloche box made in Germany

Beautiful box created in Germany during the art deco period, circa 1925. This exceptional cigarette-snuff box was carefully crafted with a wavy rectangular shape in solid .935/.999 standard silver with rich gilded interior finish. Fitted with nine barrels hinged lid, that can be raised by a simple thumbpiece. Embellished with engine turned geometric guilloche decoration and frames with carved incised designs.

Weight: 110.95 Grams, (71.12 Dwt).

Measurements: 80 mm by 62 mm by 19 mm (3.15 x 2.44 x 0.75 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with German marks, the maker's mark ALO inside an oval cartouche, the export mark for the assay of the .935 silver and the mark STERLING. Additionally is stamped with Sweden import marks of the three crowns inside a circle, the letter inside an hexagonal stamp and the importer-sponsor or retailer mark AK inside an hexagonal stamp.

Note: The present form of National Control Mark started in 1901 consisting of the three crowns of the Swedish coat of arms in a trefoil shape. The National Control Mark is accompanied by a mark with the letter "S" into a hexagonal frame indicating the minimum silver standard of .800. This is the minimum standard, but also .830 and 925 (STERLING) are commonly used. From 1912 to 1988 foreign silver imported into Sweden is marked with the three crowns into an oval frame.

Guilloché 

Is a term used in fine jewelry or objects de Vertu to enhance the appearance of boxes, frames, brooches, rings or pendants. When is Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue.

ConditionThe overall condition of this box is very good. Beside the little normal wear, there is no bumps to the silver or the gilding. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
