Scottish Agates is a semi-translucent, gray stone that contains microscopic crystals of quartz. It's a member of the chalcedony family and comes from volcanic rock. Gray Agate is most well-known for its grounding and soothing properties. Have been found in many Stone Age graves and appear to have been kept either for their beauty or, perhaps, for their energetic power. Early lapidaries, dating as far back as 3000 BCE, referenced seals, rings, beads, and other ornaments which were carved out of Agate. The Sumerians were the first to describe the power of stones, and their texts state that wearing Agate gave a person special favor with the gods. The name “Agate” was first used by the Greek writer Theophrastus who suggested that all Agates came from the Achates River/ The ornamental use of agate dates back to Ancient Greece in assorted jewelry and in the seal stones of Greek warriors. Use of beads necklaces with pierced and polished agate goes further back to the 3rd millennium BCE in the Indus Valley Civilization.

Note: The total weight of of the agates are 1,026.5 carats. The necklace was recently re stranded.

It is in perfect condition.
