*British cufflinks with Ancient Greek Stater coins 340 bc from Cnossos & Locris Opuntia in Sterling
Cufflinks with very rare Ancient Greek coins.
A vintage pair of cufflinks, made in England at the beginning of the 1900's. They has been crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver and are mounted with a pair of very rare authentic Ancient Greek coins from the 350 bc. Suited at the reverse with a small chain with toggles backs.
Description of coin 1. A silver Stater, 250-200 bc (23 mm) from the Greek city of Cnossos in Crete.
Obverse: Display a bearded male portrait facing to the right, with the hair bound in a taenia, probably the portrait of Zeus or Minus.
Reverse: Has a geometric labyrinth with several unidentified Greek letters. This coin is similar to the specimen hold at the numismatic cabinet in the British Museum Collection, with the reference number, bmc-43. similar specimens has been sold between the range of 2,000.- to 4,500.-
Description of coin 2. A silver Stater, 382-356 bc (23.5 mm) from the Greek city of Locris opuntia, an ancient coastal city in the Easter part of central Greece.
Obverse: The female portrait of Persephone facing to the right, topped with a wreath, wearing a triple pendant earrings and a beaded pearls necklace.
Reverse: The standing naked figure of the warrior Ajax wearing a Corinthian crested helmet in battle stance to the right, with his left hand holding a shield, decorated with a snake and with his right hand holding a short sword. All in plain field with the Greek letters, οποπ / τιων. Similar to the David Sear-2328, SNG COP 42 and to BMC 28. Similar specimens has been sold between the range of 4,000.- to 15,000.-
Has a total weight of 25.6 grams and a diameter of 24 mm (0.95 Inch).
Note, Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter, is the queen of the underworld. Ajax was a Greek hero that fought to claim Helen Of Troy in the homer's classic book Iliad.
Both specimens are very well centered , with sharp strike and extremely well preserved and are overall, in great EF condition.
