French transitional Art Deco-Retro cocktail ring.

Extraordinary transitional statement cocktail ring, created in Paris France during the period of the late art-deco and the early retro periods, circa 1937-1940. This piece has been carefully assembled with organic abstract geometric elements crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with polished finish.

Mounted in the center, with a emerald stepped cut (20 x 19 x 15 mm) of a natural Brazilian blue aquamarine of 39.05 carats.

Has a total weight of 25.95 Grams and the actual size is 5.5, sizeable, The top view measurements are 25.5 mm by 20 mm (1 x 0.79 Inches), raise 14 mm over the finger.

Stamped, with French hallmarks for the maker and the gold assay guaranty.

Note: The jeweler who made this ring was a very talented one, with extreme knowledge about geometry and how to join each elements to create a perfect balance. This piece is fully assembled piece by piece, with incredible industrial precision. It is an exceptional master piece of art and the delicacy with which the two artistic styles of deco and retro are treated and merged is magnificent.

History: Although the term “Retro” wasn’t coined until the 1970s, the jewelry of the late 1930s and 1940s was definitely different from its antecedents. The end of the Art Deco geometric aesthetic came at the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in Modern Life, 1937 in Paris. Assistant Commissioner General Paul Léon believed that the Exhibition would revive the jewelry arts and return jewelers to the use of ornamentation with grace and variety. A newly spawned uniqueness was noticed in the jewelers in 1937 as opposed to the similarity of their work at the 1925 Paris Exhibition. (From Lang with thank).

Note: Aquamarine gemstones are the birthstone of March. In ancient period, the Greeks and Romans thought of aquamarine as the sailor’s gem. They believed the blue gem would protect the travelers during storms while traveling across the seas. Ancient cultures also thought aquamarine was a token of love between dating and married couples. Now, it’s the official gemstone to celebrate a 19th marriage anniversary.

It is in perfect vintage condition, with gorgeous look.
