AN EXTRAORDINARY INKWELL FROM THE FRENCH THIRD EMPIRE.
MADE IN PARIS FRANCE AROUND THE 1860, DURING THE NAPOLEON III PERIOD (1852-1870).
A FRENCH CLASSICAL PIECE, HAND CRAFTED WITH IMPECCABLE DETAILS IN RICH 18 KARAT YELLOW GOLD AND 24 KARATS GILDED SILVER. IS MOUNTED IN AN HEXAGONAL BEVELED CUT BASE, CARVED FROM NATURAL FRENCH BLUE MARBLE.
THE LID AT TOP IS EMBELLISHED WITH CARVING OF NATURAL BLUE LAPIS LAZULI. OPEN WITH AN INVISIBLE HINGE AND THE COMPLETE MAIN PIECE ROTATE 360 o IN THE BASE.
IS STAMPED WITH THE MAKER'S CARTOUCHE MARK "J-P" AND THE FRENCH EAGLE HEAD ASSAY MARK FOR THE GUARANTY OF THE .750 GOLD.
HAVE A DIAMETER OF 3.5 INCHES AND A HEIGHT MEASURES OF 4.1 Inches. THE BASE IS 3.16 BY 3.16 Inches. IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH NO VISIBLE RESTORATIONS, INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL TRANSPARENT CLEAR GLASS VASE FOR THE INK.
