ARTHUR KING 1970 Organic Necklace Chain In 18Kt Gold With Quartz Matrix & Sapphires
A modernist necklace designed by Arthur King.
This is a magnificent sculptural necklace, created by the artist goldsmith Arthur King at his atelier in New York city, back in the 1970. This necklace-pendant-brooch is very rare and has been carefully crafted with free forms elements in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with highly textured finish. The pendant is fitted with a hinged double stick pins with a security mechanical lock and a safety hook to wear as a brooch or a pendant. It is accompanied by a magnificent free-form chain of twenty-four inches in suite. As a note, Arthur King jewelry pieces of this caliber, quality and size are very hard to find. This is a very important piece for any serious collectors.
Quartz: The main central gemstone is a beautiful irregular brownish color quartz matrix (51 x 35 x 11 mm).
Sapphires: Mounted around indiscriminately in four-prongs settings, with 8 calibrated round brilliant cut of red orange sapphires, with an estimate weight of about 0.48 carats.
Weight: 91.45 Grams, (58.65 Dwt.).
Length: The chain is 24.6 Inches, (62.48 Cm.).
Measurements: 50 mm by 70 mm by 9.5 (1.97 x 2.75 x 0.37 Inches).
Hallmarks: Both pieces are clearly stamped with the maker's mark cartouche, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 gold and signed as follows, "KING 18KT".
Arthur King
He was a renowned American master jeweler located in New York city that work between the 1960 and 1970. His most notorious was the using of the lost wax technique to set gemstones in a naturalistic form. He had shops in New York, Paris, Miami, London and La Havana. All his jewelry is avidly collected and mostly all items are one of a kind, never mass produced. His jewelry is held at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Moma museum, the New York Natural History Museum and many others.
