TIFFANY & CO. 1968 Jean Schlumberger Kinetic Ring In 18Kt Yellow Gold With Rubies
A kinetic ring designed by Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.
This is a one-of-a-kind cocktail ring created in Paris France by Jean Schlumberger for the Tiffany Studios, back in the late 1968. This rare sculptural ring has much historical importance and was carefully crafted in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats with polished finish. The ring is kinetic and is composed by five dangling elements which are embellished with five Burmese vivid red rubies. This ring is a so-called prototype and a very important collectors’ piece, since just a few were produced, We have not see or locate any other one.
Rubies: Mounted in bezel settings, with 5 round cabochons cut of natural Burmese vivid red rubies with a combined weight of about 1.25 carats.
Birthstone: Rubies for the month of July.
Weight: 11.95 Grams, (7.66 Dwt).
Size: The actual size is 7.25 and may be resized up or down on special request.
Measurements: 21 mm by 10 mm, (1.06 x 0.60 Inches) and raise 8 mm over the finger.
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 yellow gold and signed as follows, "TIFFANY & CO. 18KT SCHLUMBERGER DES.".
Jean Schlumberger
He was asked in 1956 by the president of Tiffany & Co. Walter Hovin to begin designing for the firm. He had his own workshop at the company until his retirement in the late 1970's and was eventually made vice president of the company. Schlumberger designs at tiffany were remarkable for their whimsical interpretation of natural forms. He was especially inspired by the sea creatures and others animals. He was an exceptional designer, jeweler and a master enameller.
