A jeweled bee brooch designed by Chaumet.

A vintage beautiful Brooch, created in Paris France by the jewelry house of Chaumet, back in the late 1960. This piece has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 Karat and secured to reverse with a hinged pin and barrel trombone clasp fitting for safety. Was modelled as a queen-bee ready to fly, with the wings embellished with carvings of white nacre. The wings and body are detailed with twisted ropes, leading to the ridges body with a naturalistic textured finish, the legs and head are carved in polished gold.

The bee is the oldest lineage symbol in France, since the Merovingian kings around the 509 AD. It was adopted again in 1803 by Emperor Napoleon and recreated by Chaumet as a symbol of the jewels of the new dynasty.

Diamonds: The eyes are bezel set and the upper body is mounted in four-prongs settings, that are holding 8 round brilliant cuts diamonds, 1.14 carats, white colorless, E/F color, VVS-1 clarity.

Weight: 11.95 Grams (7.66 Dwt).

Measurements: 37 mm by 32 mm (1.46 x 1.26 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with French national marks and British imports marks. The eagle's head for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold, the maker's maitre mark JC for Joseph Chaumet inside a lozange cartouche, the serial numbers and signed, "CHAUMET PARIS OR .750 121663". "CUK .750 Q (1971)".

Chaumet, was founded by the French born jeweler, Marie-Etienne Ninot. He began his career as an assistant court-jeweler to the queen Marie Antoinette. In 1780, he moved to Paris and founded the house of Chaumet, and was appointed as jeweler to emperor Napoleon in 1802. During this period, Ninot became one of the most popular jewelers in Europe, establishing a loyal and continuous prestigious clientele. today the house remains as a luxury jewelry house under the name Chaumet Paris.
