A rhodochrosite pendant designed by Mario Buccellati.

This is a beautiful classic pendant created in Milano Italy by the famous jewelry house of Mario Buccellati, back in the 1960. This pendant was carefully hand-crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with the iconic brushed finish. It is mounted on top with one massive natural earth mined rhodochrosite with a weight of about sixty-five carats. The reverse is featuring a bird-faced men playing a mandolin dresed with reinansance ropes. The gold is embellished with the Buccellati characteristic Florentine patterns and is fitted with a jump ring to wear in a chain or a charm's bracelet.

Rhodochrosite

This gemstone draws its name from two Greek words, rhodon meaning rose and chroma meaning color. This legendary stone dates back at to the ancient Inca civilization. Upon discovering the gem in a cave in Argentina, the Incas incorporated the beautiful pink crystals into jewelry. Rhodochrosite is Argentina’s national gemstone. Colorado officially named rhodochrosite as its state mineral in 2002. It is sometimes called "Rosa del Inca", "Inca Rose" or Rosinca.

Hallmarks: Stamped with Italian marks; the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 yellow gold and signed as follows, "BUCCELLATI ITALY .750".

Mario Buccellati

He was born in 1891 and opened his first enterprise in 1919, after the establishment of stores in Milan, Rome and Florence, began the development of his overseas business by opening a new store on Fifth Avenue in New York in 1954 and another in Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Florida in 1958. In 1949, Mario Buccellati was commissioned to create an icon by Pope Pius XII for Princess Margaret to mark the extraordinary power of the first visit of a British Royal to Vatican City in hundreds of years. This magnificent work of art can be admired today at the Chianciano Art Museum in Tuscany. In 1965, after the death of Mario, the management of the firm was conducted by four of his five sons. In 1971, the new brand Gianmaria Buccellati was launched by one of Mario's sons, who started a separate business from his brothers, and in 2011 came to an agreement with his relatives for the brand Buccellati, then Buccellati Holding Italia, reshape the company.
