A flower brooch designed by Aletto Brothers.

This is a gorgeous and very rare mystery-setting flower brooch, created by the Aletto Brothers company, back in the late 1980's. This magnificent brooch has been designed as a single flower crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. Embellished with a fabulous selection of one hundred eighty-nine natural earth mined gemstones such: rubies and white colorless diamonds. Mount in the center with a cluster of brilliant-cut diamonds, the petals concealingly-set with calibré-cut rubies, decorated by pavé-set brilliant-cut diamond leaves and a channel-set squared carre-cut diamond stem. The rubies are of matching, medium dark, intense vivid red colour and very clean. The brooch is fitted at the reverse with a hinged double pins with a mechanical twisted lock.

Invisible Mystery Settings

This setting technique was invented first in Paris in the 1920s. An unknown jeweler named Jacques-Albert Algier patented and developed this method of holding a stone in place without showing the metal prongs or bezel. In 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled the Mystery Set technique, as a groundbreaking system for mounting precious stones that did away with the visible prongs of traditional stone-setting to allow the gems to take center stage, defying convention and redefining the possibilities of jewelery design. Invisible settings, also known as serti invisible, are comprised of stones that have been calibrated to very close tolerances and are cut with grooved girdles that are locked into a thin wire framework. This allows large areas of jewelry to be coated “seamlessly” with gemstones.

Still family owned and operated, the firm is currently based in Boca Raton, Florida, but was originally started in Naples, Italy, by Bartolomeo Aletto an Italian goldsmith. His first major commission was to create a special piece of jewelry to celebrate the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris. In 1962, Alberto Aletto who was the third generation, moved the company to America, opening his business in New York. It is his son Alfredo who is leading the firm today with the support of his sons Alberto, Luigi and Mario.
