ALDO CIPULLO 1970 Maltese Pendant Brooch In 18Kt Gold With Diamonds & Lapis Lazuli
Jeweled Maltese pendant-brooch designed by Aldo Cipullo (1936-1984).
This is a gorgeous convertible pendant-brooch created in New York City by the jewelry designer Aldo Cipullo, back in early 1970. The Maltese cross-form shaped pendant have been carefully crafted with geometric stepped patterns in solid 18 karats yellow gold with high polished finish. It is embellished with a great selection of natural earth mined gemstones, such; five carvings of Afghani blue lapis lazuli and eight white colorless diamonds. It is fitted at the reverse with a retractable wire ring to wear as a pendant in a chain and a hinged double pin bars with a mechanical lock to wear as a brooch.
Diamonds: Mount in four-prongs settings, with 8 graduated round brilliant cut diamonds, with an approximate total weight of about 2.08 carats. white colorless F color, VS clarity.
Lapis Lazuli: Mounted in a screw setting, with 1 hexagonal sugarloaf cabochon cut (16 x 16 x 10 mm) carved from natural blue lapis lazuli with an approximate total weight of about 28 carats.
Lapis Lazuli: Mounted in concealed bar settings, with 4 fluted briolette cabochon cuts (24 x 24 x 5 mm) carved from natural blue lapis lazuli with an approximate total weight of about 20 carats.
Birthstone: Lapis lazuli for the month of September.
Weight: 56.80 grams (36.45 Dwt).
Measurements: 56 mm by 56 mm (2.21 x 2.21 inches) and raise 21 mm.
Hallmarks: Stamped at the reverse with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .750/.999 gold and signed in full as follows, "©A. CIPULLO 18 KT".
Aldo Cipullo
He was an Italian born jeweler. He born and was raised in a family of designers with jewelry traditions; his father was the owner of a jewelry factory and his brother Renato Cipullo made jewelry designs for Christian Dior. Aldo, was the creator of the popular and iconic Cartier bracelets, love and the nail, still until today considered ones of the best designs of the 20th century. He works as a designer in New York, for David Webb (1960-1969) and Cartier (1969-1975). In 1975 he found his own company as a freelance designer.
