This kind of vivid Amethysts
The dark purple Deep Russian amethyst is largely considered one of the rarest high-grade amethysts. However, rare does not always equal sought after. The value of the amethyst may depend on the labor needed to facet the semi-precious stone. “Deep Russian,” from Siberia, is the highest grade of amethyst. It is usually very deeply colored. The mines that produce it have been depleted, so it is quite rare, making it the most valuable amethyst. This specimen is at the Gallery of Mineralogy and Geology in the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The highest-grade amethyst (called deep Russian) is exceptionally rare. When one is found, its value is dependent on the demand of collectors; however, the highest-grade sapphires or rubies are still orders of magnitude more expensive than amethyst.
