Geometric sculptural pendant designed by Cartier.

This is a fabulous and inedited sculptural pendant, created by the French jewelry house of Cartier, back in the 1970. The rare one of a kind pendant is pretty big and has been crafted with geometric patterns creating an outstanding trompe l'oeil effect in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. It is a very rare piece of art, created with a super minimalist style where the absence of solids and openings create the magnificent effect of a rectangle in three-dimensional perspective. The artist, who is still unknown to us, masterfully worked the widths and thicknesses of the edges of the rectangle to create the visual effect.

Trompe L'œil

This in French means, for 'deceive the eye'. It is an artistic term for the highly realistic optical illusion of three-dimensional space and objects on a two-dimensional surface. Trompe l'oeil, which is most often associated with painting, tricks the viewer into perceiving painted objects or spaces as real. Forced perspective is a related illusion in architecture.

Weight: 31.30 Grams, (20.10 Dwt).

Measurements: 140 mm by 56 mm by 13 mm (5.51 x 2.20 x 0.51 Inches).

Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay of the gold, the five-digits serial numbers and signed, "CARTIER 18KT 47177".

History About This Piece

On October 03, 1969, Cartier launched a collection of about 200 unique jewelry pieces entitled, Astrological, underwater, and geometric, all designed by young designers such; Jean Dinh Van, the Canadian Roger Lucas, Aldo Cipullo and other young artists, with a two-week exhibition at its flagship boutique in New York city.
