Claret wine ewer designed by Léon Lapar.

This is a magnificent claret wine ewer pitcher created in Paris France at the silversmith atelier of Léon Lapar. The piece was masterfully crafted around the 1895, in cut rock crystal and ornate with frames mountings made up in solid .950/.999 sterling silver with gorgeous gilding applications. This ewer pitcher is embellished with French neoclassical motifs and grapes in reference to the purpose of the piece, a claret wine jug. This ewer is decorated with these motifs, which are embossed, chiseled and carved in the silver. It is fitted with a semi curved handle and a five-barrels hinged lid surmounted by a cast pine nut finial.

Léon Lapar

The Parisian goldsmith, Léon Lapar took over the Maison Tétard from 1878 to 1897 and worked at rue de Choiseul. His son-in-law, Georges Fouquet-Lapar succeeded him in 1897, thus transforming the company name “L. LAPAR” into “FOUQUET-LAPAR. This piece is from the latest period of Leon Lapar.

Hallmarks: Stamped with several French marks, the maker's mark, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .950/.999 silver and signed twice as follows; "L. LAPAR". Silver French mark Minerve, silversmith punch mark, signed L.Lapar for Léon Lapar, French silversmith, that worked between 1878-1897.

ConditionThe overall condition of this wine ewer by Léon Lapar is excellent. Beside the little normal wear there is no damage to the silver or the crystal and all parts are secured in the settings. This jug has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
