Havana-San Sebastián yacht races

The Havana-San Sebastián race, was a 4,200-mile race across the Atlantic Ocean. The first was held in 1951 and was won by the Malabar XIII of the United States; the second victory went to the Mare Nostrum, of the Real Club Náutico de San Sebastián, which arrived at La Concha beach at 6:40 p.m. on July 6, 1955, and set a record by completing the 4,200-nautical-mile journey in 24 days, four voyages less than those achieved by the Malabar XIII four years earlier. Cuba was represented on both voyages by La Cubana and the Siboney, respectively.

The Real Club Náutico of San Sebastian

The Real Club Náutico was founded in 1896 to improve the practice of water sports in Donostia-San Sebastián. It's situated just next to the beach, at the entrance to the harbor. In 1951 and 1955, the Real Club Náutico San Sebastián organized the most important transoceanic regatta of the time: Havana – San Sebastián.
