A folk-art nutcracker carved in oak wood.

This is an elusive antique black forest nutcracker created in northern Europe, most probably in Germany or Switzerland back in the late 19th century, circa 1900. The folk-art nutcracker has been carefully carved with amazing intricate details in solid oak wood in the shape of a mythical forest Gnome. This antique piece has a wonderful patina and would adorn any humble lodges as well as stately homes. This type of Black Forest carvings are intricate wood carvings, often depicting forest animals, particularly bears, and foliage, according to Georgian Antiques. While popularly associated with the Black Forest region of Germany, they actually originated in Brienz, Switzerland, and were created by northern Swiss carvers
