Counter-desk lighter pump filled designed by Beney.

This is a superb and exceptionally rare lighter-fluid pump filler, made in London circa 1930 by the Beney Lighter Company, associated with inventor and manufacturer Robert Ernest Beney. Designed as a specialized accessory for filling petrol lighters, this remarkable piece combines practical functionality with the refined industrial aesthetic of the Art Deco period. Masterfully constructed in solid plated and polished steel, the pump has a substantial, beautifully engineered appearance and is decorated with elegant Art Deco patterns. The front is engraved “BENEY LIGHTER PUMP,” identifying its original purpose and adding to its appeal as an authentic period accessry.

The ingenious pumping mechanism is in excellent working condition and has been fully tested. Although currently empty, the pump operates properly and can be used to fill virtually any traditional petrol lighter. Its combination of utility, mechanical precision, and sophisticated industrial design makes it an unusually desirable accessory for the serious lighter collector. A rare and highly collectible gentleman's accessory, this Beney lighter pump is a wonderful example of early 20th-century British industrial design. Its elegant Deco decoration, solid construction, excellent mechanical condition, and exceptional eye appeal make it a superb conversation piece and an extraordinary addition to any collection of vintage lighters and smoking accessories.

The Beney Lighter Company

The Beney lighter, known for its distinctive design with a separate lid and wind-guard, was created by Robert Ernest Beney and first patented in 1926. The company, The Beney Company, produced lighters under the Beney brand from 1919 into the mid-1950s. Initially based in London, the company later moved to Buckenham, Kent, and was renamed Beney, Ltd. in 1938. They also produced pipes under the name Saville, and owned H. Perkins & Sons, who made Ascot pipes. A significant product was the "Economic Gas Lighter," a popular item for gas cookers and Bunsen burners.
