A Beney petrol lighter made in England.

This is a beautiful antique pocket petrol lighter made in London England during the Art Deco period, back in 1919-1926. The lighter was designed by Robert Ernest Beney for The Beney Lighter Company. It was masterfully crafted in a very limited edition in solid brass with polished silver plating (original) and embellished with a wrapping of genuine lizard leather from the period. This is the first model, the larger version featuring the patented hinged windshield mechanism and the lateral ignition wheel. The lighter is in great original condition with no repairs and was properly tested.

The Beney Lighter Company

The Beney lighter, known for its distinctive design with a separate lid and wind-guard, was created by Robert Ernest Beney and first patented in 1926. The company, The Beney Company, produced lighters under the Beney brand from 1919 into the mid-1950s. Initially based in London, the company later moved to Beckenham, Kent, and was renamed Beney, Ltd. in 1938. They also produced pipes under the name Saville, and owned H. Perkins & Sons, who made Ascot pipes. A significant product was the "Economic Gas Lighter," a popular item for gas cookers and Bunsen burners.
