-Tallois & Mayence 1885 Paris Covered Dish With Plate In .950 Sterling Silver

Covered server dish with server plate, designed by A. M. Tallois & Mayence.

Fabulous serving bowl-dish suite, created in Paris France by the famous silversmiths company of Tallois & Mayence, back in the 1885. It was crafted in solid .950/.999 sterling silver and is composed by the round tray, the bowl and the elaborated lid. It is decorated with an exceptional engine turned guilloche of diamonds patterns and carefully engraved with neo-classical motifs of multiples garlands. The bowl is fitted at the sides with two elaborated baroque handles and the lid is decorated with the sculpted three dimensional figure of a female ram. This is an exceptional piece with gorgeous craftmanship. 

Tallois Et Mayence

Tallois and Mayence was a highly regarded French silversmiths company and was active between the 1880 and 1907 at 19 Boulevard de Strasburg in Paris. Tallois and Mayence was a partnership between two talented silversmiths; Paul Tallois and Louis Mayence. Mayence was a great Parisian goldsmith, successors and apprentice of François Nicoud, himself successor of the famous Lavalée.

Style: French neo classic.

Year: 1880-85.

Material and assay: Solid silver, .950/.999 Ar.

Weight: 1,524.5 Grams, (977.24 Dwt), (49.02 Troy Ounces).

Measurements: Diameter of 254 mm and a total height of 153 mm (10 x 6 Inches).

Hallmarks: Each piece is stamped with French marks; the maker's mark, the mark of helmeted Minerva inside an octagonal cartouche for the assay and warranty of the .950 silver, (Osprey 133). and signed inside a large cartouche, "A.M. TALLOIS & MAYENCE PARIS 19 BOULEVARD DE STRAUSBOURG".

Note: The mark stamped in this piece, of a helmeted Minerva facing to the right inside an octagonal framed cartouche, is listed in Osprey as number 133. This mark was in use in France, between the 1834 to the 1919. The octagonal shape of the mark, refer exclusively to an assay of 95% silver or over.

Condition: The overall condition of this set is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. All parts are secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
