An exceptional Victorian charms bracelet in wood.

This is a fabulous and very rare charms bracelet, created in London England during the Victorian period, back in 1880. The exceptional bracelet is very unusual and is composed of eight charms of different motifs, carefully carved in bog-oak wood, and mounted in delicate wires made up in yellow gold of 18 karats. The bracelet has a beautiful fresh look, with great eye appeal and is fitted with a hook as a security lock.

Bog-Oak Wood

This kind of wood is a material from trees that were buried in a peat bog, sometimes for hundreds or thousands of years; being protected from natural decomposition by the acidic and anaerobic conditions in the peat bog. The wood is usually stained brown from tannins dissolved in the acidic water. Peat wood represents the first stages of wood fossilization, from which in its final stages and over millions of years, jet, lignite, and coal are formed. Bog wood can be produced from any species of tree that grows naturally near or within a bog, these include oak (Quercus - origin of the English word for "bog oak"), pine (Pinus), yew (Taxus), the swamp cypress (Taxodium) and the kauri (Agathist). Peat wood is normally removed from fields and placed in a pile. It is a rare type of wood that is said to be “compared to some of the most expensive tropical hardwoods in the world."
